A Message from the Commodore - 1/12/24

Hi Everyone,

Here is some info for you -

1) Our new website is up and running. You still type in - halifaxsailing.org - it should look new to you. Because we have just recently made this switch, we are having a few small glitches, which we are working on now. Please be patient with us as we get this up and working smoothly.

2) One such difficulty members are having - joining or renewing. In order to do this, once you have arrived at our site, please click on the "Join" button. Once you arrive on this page, you will see the variety of memberships we offer. Under each membership type is a button that says "More info." You must click on "More info" under the membership you are renewing in order to continue to our join/membership renewal page. Once there, it should be simple. Complete the necessary info. If you have difficulty, please contact me (lisa.herbster@gmail.com).

3) We have no specific events going on at HSA this weekend.

Here is what will be happening at HSA this week -

Monday, 1/15 - ERAU Learn to Sail - 12 noon - 4 PM.

Saturday, 1/20 - The 1st Youth race team practice of 2024, from 9 AM - 3+ PM.

Sunday, 1/21 - The January All Fleet Race, skippers meeting is at 12:30, first start is at 1:30. We'll have our usual cookout after sailing. Please provide a dish to share and BYOB.

4) Our new Secretary for 2024, Tonya Sands, will be taking over writing and sending the weekly messages for me beginning next week. She's hoping/expecting to get these short weekly messages out at the beginning of each week. She and I will also be working on producing a monthly Newsletter. This will be sent electronically to members in the last week of a month. It will have info from all BOD Vice Commodores and myself re: all the various things that will be going on around the club during the coming month. We may have our first one ready by the end of January, but it may not be quite ready yet. This will definitely be ready to go out by the end of Feb. with info about what will be coming up in March around the club. If you have anything that you would like to have included in the monthly newsletter, please reach out to Tonya (ltsands@bellsouth.net).

5) As you should be aware, our yearly membership fee has gone up (now $300/yr. for a general membership. Silver and Gold memberships have also increased.) In addition to a fee change, we are also implementing a requirement of volunteer hours for each membership. All memberships are now required to complete 24 hours of volunteering to maintain a membership in good standing. We are still working on various committees that we need help with, as well as other activities that can be completed for this requirement. We hope to have these items ready for you to look over in the next week or so. Again, thanks for your patience with this.

Try to stay warm and dry as we go through these waves of fronts bringing us this rain! I hope to see you on the water soon!

Fair winds,

Lisa
