SMYRNA YACHT CLUB MICHELOB REGATTA Notice of Race March 12, 2006 The 2006 "down the river" Michelob Regatta, sponsored by Smyrna
Yacht Club(SYC), will accommodate offshore racing classes in a fun race between
the Mosquito Lagoon andtheSYC. All boats will be handicapped under PHRF, prior to the race on March 12,
2006. The race will begin at S YC, with an east to west starting line, or at
Marker 15 in the Mosquito Lagoon between the RC and a west starting line mark.
The race will run from north to south, or south to north, depending on wind
direction. Advanced notice will be given. All boats will be stagger started in accordance with PHRF handicap. Slower
boats will start first, followed by subsequent faster classes. Your
proportionate starting time will be predetermined, and distributed to you at the
skipper's meeting. Each boat will receive one commemorative Michelob Regatta mug at the awards
ceremony following the race. First, second, and third place will have their mug
engraved with finishing place. First place winner, will be engraved on the
trophy cup at the SYC. Sailing Instructions 1. The race will be governed by the USYRU rules. 2. The mandatory safety equipment will be in
accordance with US Sailing Association. 3. The first start will begin at 11 a.m. A
warning signal will be given for the first start at 1050, followed by the
preparatory signal at 1055. All boats that follow, will start at their eligible
starting time, as predetermined on the starting sequence sheet. Starting RC will
keep track of starting eligibility and hail boats over the starting line before
their time. 4. Boats will start at a line running east of
the club to a starting marker, or east of the RC boat to a starting marker.
Direction of race will be determined by wind conditions. Boats that have not
started, and boats that have finished, will stay clear of boats racing. Failure
to stay clear, may result in DSQ. 5. The RC will reserve the right to shorten
course, if wind, or weather justifies. 6. There will be a three hour time limit in
order to finish. 7. Protest appeal to SYC committee. Forms will
be available at registration. Protests will be delivered to the committee
within 60 minutes of race completion. No further appeals. 8. Your starting time sequence, will be
delivered to the boat skipper at the skipper's meeting prior to the start of the
race. Scoring Scoring will be determined by the way each boat crosses finish line. All
boats will be Handicapped respective to type of sails, use of spinnaker, double
head sail, and prop configuration. There will be one set of awards. In case of bad weather, the race will be run on subsequent Sundays, at the
designated time. Safety Regulations All boats entered in the race must check in with
RC, and check out when retired. All boats will carry the US Sailing recommended
safety equipment. Each participating boat shall be insured with valid
third-party liability insurance. Disclaimer of Liability Competitors participate in the regatta entirely
at their own risk. See Rule 4, Decision to Race. The organizing authority will
not accept any liability for material damage, personal injury, or death
sustained in conjunction with, or prior to, during, or after the regatta. The
decision to participate is entirely the boat skippers and their guests. Your regatta chairman is Phil Cornett. Your handicap committee members are John Jacobs,
Phil Cornett, and Tom Benner.
LIPTON CUP RESULTSFor those boats that were able to race, it was a wild ride today. Everyone (except the few who got sick) seemed to have a great time. Congratulations to all of the sailors that went out. Results are below.This is posted on the web site.
