3. Em Lowry clarified questions regarding the treasurer’s report. Embry Riddle has paid last years membership dues in full. They, as well as Hobie Fleet and Yacht Club were billed for this year in January. Normal payment is usually made around October.

4. Em asked that he be notified of any problems with Embry Riddle or their boats before the club takes any action. He will make every attempt to resolve the situation.

Embry Riddle University has insurance for all its clubs. Therefore, it lessens our liability if any problems occur at the sailing center.

5. Karolyn Campbell suggested we have a get-together in the fall with the Embry Riddle Club, once their membership drive is over. This way we can fill them in ourselves as to the rules and expectations regarding use of the Sailing Center. This was agreed upon by the membership. Gary S will be contacting Jim Cunningham and Paul Philippe with this request. We hope to provide a BBQ for the gathering.

6. It was suggested that we bring in someone from the Coast Guard to discuss their guidelines for boating. This will clarify any questions regarding PFD’s, buddy system, etc. This can be done at the gathering with Embry Riddle or at one of our monthly meetings.

7. Gary Johnson asked about replacing the water cooler. Em explained it was over 10 years old. Gary J will look into the cost and bring the information to the next meeting.

8. The new fence is basically completed. It has been extended into the water. The old fence now needs to be removed.

9. The following changes were made to the sailing center rules:

bulletWhen launching and sailing any boat from the Sailing Center you must:

A.     Utilize a buddy system for safety (must be either 2 people on the boat or 1 on the water and a Beachmaster on shore)      or

B.     Sail during a club sanctioned activity or regatta

C.     Beachmaster has complete control and responsibility of HSA equipment.

bulletUse of a PFD must comply with Coast Guard Regulations.
bulletIt will be under the Beachmasters  discretion to determine if conditions are safe for sailing.
bulletFoot protection must be worn at all times at the sailing center, in or out of the water.
bulletNo recreational swimming is allowed.
bulletNo diving or jumping from the dock.
bulletNo fishing from the club facilities.
bulletEvery member is responsible for cleaning up the facility after their family members and guests.
bulletEvery individual is responsible for cleaning up and putting away any equipment used. Report any damaged equipment to the Beach master or a club officer.

bulletAll members must agree to abide by these rules.

bulletEach club must maintain their designated area. This includes cutting the grass and weeds if needed, picking up trash and debris, and keeping the property in good order and repair, and in an attractive, clean and sanitary condition.
bulletOnly minor repairs of small boats are permitted on the premises. The sailing center facilities shall not be used for major maintenance or overhauling of large boats or for the maintenance and repair of any other vehicles, including cars.

Thursday, August 1st

1.  PRAM Challenge

bullet

Scott Nason has made many calls to members, 7 or 8 Sailing Camp families have confirmed attendance at Sunday’s event.

bullet

Prizes will be gift certificates at a marine store, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd

bullet

It was then modified to purchase trophies for the winners rather then gift certificates.  Em will handle this.

bullet

After the actual race of the PRAM Challenge there will be some activities to include the parents and other adults, these will be tailored around sailing.

bullet

Food and drinks will be provided by the club.

2.   Emmert Lowry provide the Treasurer’s Report.  No discussion.

3.   Summer Racing Series

bullet

August 10th Saturday is the next one.  August 11th Sunday will be a makeup race day for the canceled June race.

4.   City Improvements

bullet

City surveyors have established the “mean high water mark”.  This was the next step for construction of the sea wall and ramps for us.  The sea wall design is not fully complete yet, it may be made of poured concrete or preformed sections that are set in place with a crane.  It still not known if it will be straight or have a curve to match our existing beach.

5.   Access to City boat ramp to the north

bullet

Railings have be put up by the City to stop traffic where we had been going to pull boats (mast up) over to the City ramp.  We have requested and the city has agreed to erect a gate and fence in place of the railings to allow us access.

 6.  Water Cooler

bullet

Emmert will purchase the cooler and the City has agreed to install it for us.

 7.  2nd Gate near batting practice cage

bullet

The City plans to put in another gate here to keep night traffic out of the area directly outside of out compound.  This does cause some inconvenience in accessing our facility.  Karolyn will draft a letter to the City stating this.  The letter will go under the Secretary’s signature.  (Linda Stackpole)

8.   Gold Membership

bullet

The City has officially approved our Gold membership in writing.  Thanks to Dave Robinson and Marie Hartman for all their hard work in this project.  Gary Smith will handle the tracking of the payments for the Gold and all memberships.  Letters will go out soon requesting completion of the application and payment.

9.   Instructor Training

bullet

Moved To:  Postpone instructor training and have a student class (non certified), and to have instructor training after end of year.  Seconded by Scott Nason.  10 yes / 1 no

bullet

Some of the discussion:  Because the club cannot demand an individual to pay    their own expenses for the training the anticipated costs have risen.  To send one person to the Miami class (8/24 & 8/25 – 8/31 & 9/1) would be around $1100, 2 people would be over $1600.

bullet

To train 8 people here at the Center would be around $2500 to $3000, depending on what additional expenses might be incurred.  We now have 5 or 6 willing instructor trainees now, please call if interested.  We will have the onsite class when enough people have committed to it.

bullet

To resolve this year the club will offer a sailing class (non certified) to the public and members.  Disclosure of this fact will be provided to any prospective students.  It was not decided exactly who will run the class. This general concept was explained by Mike Wiley and Dave Dunn as the way it was done along time ago.

10.  Adjourned 8:21pm

Those in attendance:    Don Wasson, Gary Johnson, Karolyn Campbell, Scott Nason, Stewart Monro, Mike Wiley, Dave Dunn, Ken Fideo, Em Lowry, Greg Lewis, Gary Smith

            b. Sea wall and ramps – engineer has been hired. They did the high water line survey, and everything we want to do is behind the high water line. Therefore,  it will not require any other permits, etc. They are now working on the design of the ramp.

c.       Em Lowery suggested from a financial point of view to go with used motor, especially with the current security around the building, not invest in something new.

4. Gary Johnson requested we work on a means of closing up the vents in the various  areas of the building, replace the wooden slats with something more secure.
