Camp Basic Plan Developed

Sailing Certified Instructors Monday
(Book Chapters 1-8, 18) (Red book 1-5, 7) 9:00-9:15
Introductions; learn everyone’s name
Discuss agenda for the day, safety, and wind awareness 9:15-10:30
Break into 5 groups or teams; each group will rotate 5 stations
#1 Rigging prams: on the beach (Red book 1, 2, 4) include wind direction here
#2 Tack & Jibe: with lazy susan (pg. 107 in book shows a land
drill)
#3 Knots: figure 8, bowline, cleat (Ch. 18) (Red book 3) create a knot story
#4 Rigging Optimist Dinghies: on the beach
#5 Paddle a kayak; Sparing a dinghy 10:30-11:45
Snack & First launch, everyone
out of the water (Red book 4, 5, 7) Describe appropriate strategy for a safe and reasonable plan for the
circumstances; wind direction; point of sail; current; obstructions. This
procedure should be repeated with every launch throughout week. May include (Red
book 14) landing briefly here; also (Red
book 16) proper seating position/weight placement. 11:45-12:45
LUNCH
Cooling off in
sprinklers, volleyball, games in the shade, rest & relax 12:45-1:45

land with chalk circle and model boat (Red
book 10) (#10 must be demonstrated in water later in camp)
#2 Make a wind indicator/compass/model
#3 Teams evaluate wind direction; use lazy susan points of sail 2:00-3:00`
